Expedition South Africa

Hello, my name is Luka Macura, I am 14 years old and I attend Sint-Joris College in Eindhoven. I have been selected to go on a school expedition in April 2026 to South Africa to help local children. I created this website to show how I will be helping the children and how I will achieve my goals. It would be great if you could take a look at the website and possibly sponsor me. Every little bit helps!

“If you can do something for someone else, then you should do it.” - Johan Cruijff

This quote from Johan Cruijff inspired me and shaped my goal for this expedition. I need your help to do that!

My wish is to help as many children as we can as a team. I need to raise money for my travel expenses and more importantly for everything else we will do there to help the children. We will build playgrounds and greenhouse tunnels for fruits and vegetables. We will also be helping at the daycare centres and help children with special needs.

How will I raise the money?

Each student is required to raise €2,800 for this expedition. I have already started selling Bolsius candles and am putting in a lot of effort to reach this goal. The company has kindly sponsored me with 12 boxes of candles to help me raise some of the funds. I plan to sell these candles in my neighbourhood and local supermarket to contribute toward the total. I will also run the local marathon to raise some money. However, these activities alone won’t raise the full €2,800, so I am seeking additional support through sponsorship. To make this easier, I’ve created a funding webpage where friends, family, and anyone interested can make a small donation. This you can do on my Go Fund Me page.Every little bit helps. Thank you in advance!!! (the link is at the bottom). I have an Instagram account where you can follow my progress and my journey. The link is below.

About the Bambanani Foundation

Since 2005, The Foundation Bambanani has been committed to the welfare of vulnerable children in and around Phalaborwa (South Africa). There are now more than 100 Bambanani child centers with over 400 employees, enabling 5,200 children to attend school safely every day. Here they receive daytime activities, education, breakfast, and a hot meal. There is also space for play and interaction, and they receive the attention they deserve. The child center forms a strong foundation for the future of the children and the community.
Some Bambanani child centers are already completely self-sufficient. And that is exactly what we want, because we believe in independence. The Friends of Bambanani lay the foundation for a child center and gradually ensure that a school becomes independent.
